How leadership tackles my shyness problem.

Since my childhood, I always was a shy person and this was pretty bad for my social experience. Throughout my school experience, I lost the opportunity to open myself to the others and be more sociable.

However, I will never forget what I learned from my Philipinian friend and my English teacher Josefa: Don’t be shy because shyness is an obstacle to success. I realize how I am being hurt by my own behavior. It’s time to change.

Though, it was not easy in the beginning because I needed to be stimulated also accomplish that goal needs some time. All I needed was the first step to walk towards to progress.

When I became more communicative, I got my first compliment from the mother of my stepfather. She noticed that I’m happier and funnier when I talk more. I wasn’t boring as I was before.

This year, I was named as a vice leader of my class. I know it sounds stupid and it’s not a big deal, but I took the opportunity as a key to solve this chronic problem.

Since I’m committed to getting the responsibility some things really start to change.

Talk to people that I didn’t use to

I always struggled to expand my circle of friends. That kind of attitude bothers me and there’s no better opportunity to make new friends than in the college or school. I know that the quantity and the quality of friends don’t use to be proportional, but I don’t want to be a miserable sunk into a loneliness life.

The truth is there is a bunch of people around the world and it is tough to believe that I can’t meet everyone in my unique life. So, you don’t have an excuse like “Nobody interests me”. There is always someone to meet and do not throw the opportunity away.

This year, I became more communicative with everyone in my class, even those that I never expected to have a contact. While my engagement grows, it made me feel more confident and the fear to meet someone new disappeared. I realize that there is no need to worry about because the others are people like you.

The best lesson of this subject is: Get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to do something new.

How I’m dealing to talk in front of the public.

It is a common issue for every shy person and it’s tough to overcome. Although, I am glad that I am not afraid of the public than I was and I’m dealing with this looking how others are facing it. How? Watching TED Talks.

There is no other better source than TED Talks. The role model of how you can make an instigating and interactive lecture about anything you can imagine. They can make everything so much easier and it stimulates me how to be a better communicator.

Once I feel adapted to talk to my colleagues, I feel a bit relieved to talk in front of the public. With my knowledges from TED Talks plus my engagement helps me to be more confident to spread my ideas. The leadership duty is shaping my personality and mentality.

Well, now you might be questioning: Are you still shy? Sure. But now I’m less than I was three years ago. Therefore, I have a long way road ahead.
