The Palma Violets fans (like me) might be missing the London indie rock quartet since the last record English Tongue in 2015. After three years of abstinence and uncertainty about the group future, three of them are back on the road as Gently Tender.

While the bassist Alexander “Chilli” Jesson no longer belongs to the group, working on his own project Crewel Intentions, Sam Fryer remains on vocals and guitar, Pete Mayhew switches the keyboard to the bass, and Will Doyle led the drums, alongside new members like Celia Archer (The Big Moon) on keys and the guitarist Adam Brown.

The first single 2 Chords Good came out on 11 July following Avez-Vous déjà on 23 August of 2018 via London based independent label Big Score. In 2019, the third single Some Hard Advice was released including a self-directed video. The sparkling keys, thunder bass, and Fryer’s tremendous performance that echoes George Ezra bass-baritone voice: the perfect formula of a nostalgic noise that brings back the magic spirit of Palma Violets era.

“I was reading the news last year and a story caught my attention of how the island of Hawaii went into crisis and panic when everyone received an accidental text message to say that a missile was heading in their direction and they should take cover. The song is about that moment of realization — the prospect of dying without your loved ones.” — Gently Tender about the new single.

While working on a full-length album debut, the tour schedule through the United Kingdom includes Live At Leeds on 04 May, the London Calling Festival in Amsterdam on 24 May, and Electric Fields on 04 July of 2019.
