Vulfpeck is an odd instrumental project from the University of Michigan. In 2013, the Fender Bassman Joe Dart among the multi-instrumentalists Theo Katzman, Jack Stratton, and Woody Goss released My First Car EP featuring Antwaun Stanley, the special guest vocalist, that became an influential member and gave another spirit to the forthcoming records.

However, the fourth album Hill Climber highlighted Theo Katzman as a vocalist following his solo work Heartbreak Hits from last year. The R&B Katzman’s sharp and smooth voice led the first album side on the opening Half of the Way which he recorded all the vocals, Darwin Derby in the company of Antwaun Stanley, the incredible high notes achieved on Lonely Town, and bossa nova ballad Love Is A Beautiful Thing with Monica Martin.

As always, the B side evokes one of the best and consistent bassists Joe Dart, the guitarist Cory Wong’s electric funky hands, on glossy, sparkling and catchy Disco Ulysses (Instrumental) and The Cup Stacker. And finally, It Gets Funkier IV, a song that is being increasingly enhancing throughout the band history, gets a delightful and dexterity new part in five years since My First Car EP.

Although the astounding and surprising Katzman performance, it’s not the first time that Theo held the microphone. He also recorded one of the most successful singles Back Pocket, Animal Spirits and Mr. Finish Line with Christine Hucal.
